Checking In

2006For the last 4 weeks I have been training in Maui getting ready for the big race of the year. The World Championships in Kona are just a little over a week away. The last 4 weeks have had some great training days and most recently a little relaxing days as I start my taper. I have ridden around the Island of Maui a couple times and have covered almost every road here. I know some of the roads better than some locals now. The weather has been hot and humid especially the last 2 weeks as the wind has slowed and allowed the heat to rise a little. Most recently my coach, Lance Watson and Xterra World Champion contender and my pick Brent McMahon have joined me for the last week of my taper before I head over to Kona. It has been a lot of fun to train with Brent and Lance as Brent is a strong climber on the bike and has really helped me in my running and swimming in the last week. It is motivating and encouraging to train together as we both are preparing for big races in the next couple weeks. To have someone pushing you and encouraging you on your last few key workouts really helps and I think It will help me as I am out in the energy lab next week and hopefully it will help him a little as he is running on Makena Beach heading for the finish.
I have missed my family immensely the last couple weeks, but am very excited to see them again in a couple days. I can't wait to get to Kona and relax a little and hang out in the pool with my son Kaiden and my wife Karis. Both who have been extremely supportive and are a inspiration to race at my limit and beyond in just over a week.
I look forward to seeing everyone out on the race course or as soon as I get back home. Thanks for all your support.
